Shark Fishing in SWFL

Each time someone books a trip with Ms. B. Haven Charters, we always ask what their dream catch would be. When we have a client, who says they want to land a big fighter, we’ll recommend shark fishing if the conditions are right. If the idea of catching a shark makes your eyes light up, keep reading.

You and the Shark Are in Good Hands

Shark can be one of the most exhilarating species to hook but sometimes people get a little nervous thinking about hooking something with so many teeth. When you’re on the boat with us, we’ll make sure the safety of everyone on the boat and the shark are the top priority.

Did you know you are much more likely to die from fireworks, lightning, a car accident, a stroke or heart disease than you are from a shark attack? According to thewildlifemuseum.org the odds of being attacked by a shark are 1 in 3,748,067. Unfortunately, most humans show zero resistance to killing sharks when given the chance. There are over 11,000 sharks killed every single hour around the world–so to ensure we aren’t damaging our beautiful Florida ecosystem, we always practice catch and release.

These creatures are some of the strongest in the ocean, which means as soon as they know they’re hooked, they’ll do everything they can to get away. Hearing the reel scream or seeing the shark jump out of the water is part of the fun! Our captains are here to guide you through when to reel in and when to let them run. If needed, they can help pull the beast closer to the boat before passing the rod back to you for the final pull.  You’ll be ready for a good night’s sleep after bringing up one of these bad boys!

What’s Out There?

Some of the sharks we commonly see out on the water are:

  • Bull shark
  • Tiger shark
  • Sandbar shark
  • Hammerhead shark
  • Bonnet head shark
  • Blacktip shark
  • Reef shark
  • Atlantic sharp nose shark

Why Book a Charter If I Can Fish from Land?

When fishing from land, there are other requirements than fishing from a vessel. The latest requirement change is that all anglers fishing from land must take the Shark-Smart Fishing educational course and get your shore-based shark fishing permit. In addition to these courses, you’ll also have to prep all of your own gear–let alone buy it, which can be stressful and pricey.

When you book a trip with our Naples native charter guides, all you have to do is simply show up to the dock and we’ll have everything ready for you when you arrive. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride out to sea before we hand you a perfectly set up rod and reel to catch the shark of your dreams.
