Father and son, Donald C. and Milan, escaped the cold weather in South Orange, New Jersey and made their way down Naples to do a little fishing. Milan, who is nine years old is third-grader at Windsor Learning Center and loves fishing.
With the temperature 84°, light winds, and calm seas Captain Robert Holzinger aboard the Fish Hunter guided them offshore of Naples to about 30 feet of water. Only a few minutes after arriving Milan hooked into a beautiful king mackerel using a light Penn spinning rod and reel combo with 15 power pro line and a live shrimp.
The water temperature out there was 71° and that’s ideal for some good nearshore king mackerel fishing. There’s certain times of year where these kings come close to shore and we can take advantage of the hot bite, but much of the year they can only be found much further offshore.
The prize catch was taken to the Riverwalk Restaurant and grilled to perfection. The Riverwalk is an awesome restaurant, especially if you’ve caught some fish and are looking for somewhere to take it and have it cooked. They will grill or fry it and send it out with some excellent sides dishes.
They took the remainder of the kingfish was taken and turned it into king fish salad and the two were able to enjoy it for the following two days. Milan & Dad are already making plans for their next fishing journey to Naples to spend the day with the Ms. B Haven Fishing team.
